Samsung One Connect box in UHD TV Wall Mount HIDEIT 2024

The Samsung One Connect box is a component of Samsung’s high-end television sets, particularly those from the QLED series. This innovative feature is designed to simplify the cable management of your TV and enhance the overall aesthetics of your home entertainment setup. Here are the key aspects of the Samsung One Connect box:

  1. Cable Management:
    • The primary purpose of the One Connect box is to centralize cable connections. Instead of connecting all your devices directly to the TV, you connect them to the One Connect box. A single, nearly transparent cable (One Invisible Connection) then connects the One Connect box to the TV. This helps reduce cable clutter and makes it easier to organize your home entertainment system.
  2. External Connections:
    • The One Connect box typically includes various ports for connecting external devices such as gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, cable/satellite boxes, and audio systems. This central hub approach allows you to keep most of your connected devices in one location, hidden away from view.
  3. Upgradeability:
    • One notable advantage of the One Connect box is its potential for future upgrades. As technology advances, you can upgrade the One Connect box rather than replacing the entire TV. This can be a cost-effective way to stay current with the latest features and connections.
  4. Models and Compatibility:
    • The One Connect box is often associated with Samsung’s premium QLED TV models. However, the specific features and compatibility may vary depending on the model and year of manufacture.
  5. Power and Data Transmission:
    • The single cable that connects the One Connect box to the TV is designed to carry both power and data signals. This minimizes the need for additional power cables and simplifies the overall setup.

Before purchasing a Samsung TV with the One Connect box, it’s advisable to check the specific features and compatibility for the particular model you are interested in. Keep in mind that newer models may have updated versions of the One Connect box with additional features and improvements.

The Samsung One Connect Box has an almost mythical status among TV owners as a brilliantly valuable TV accessory that is not as widespread as you might imagine.

The One Connect Box’s job is to route cables and wires away from the TV, outsource HDMI inputs, power connections, etc., and make sure clutter is not near the screen. Whether you place the One Connect Box under a wall display, next to it on a counter, or cleverly tuck it away in a media cabinet, it offers much more flexibility for your home theater and AV setup.

So far, everything is fine. But you can’t just pick a One Connect Box to use on any Samsung TV, and it’s that restriction makes it a bit difficult to get one for your home.

It is where we come in. In this guide, you will find a full explanation of the One Connect Box capabilities how things are going for the 2021 Slim One Connect Box and the new Samsung TVs with the valuable accessory.

However, that’s where the problem above comes in. The length of the Invisible Connection Cable, which is used to connect the TV to the One Connect Box, is finite. And if the TV is mounted too high, there is a chance that the One Connect Box won’t be able to reach your TV stand.

If that is the case, customers have often complained that they were relegated to using Velcro strips to attach the One Connect Box to the wall. If something accidentally hits or bumps into the One Connect Box and it falls off, there is always a chance that it could break, effectively rendering your TV useless.

Slim One Connect Box TV Samsung what is this explanation 2024

Other customers have tried to drill holes in the wall to insert the wire. It usually comes with problems in how much potential damage you’re willing to inflict on your home’s walls to have “invisible” wires for your TV set. Perhaps a more conservative approach would be to use cable ties and self-adhesive tie mounts, which some have successfully done.

Finally, the most aesthetically pleasing solution would be to get yourself a floating TV stand. These stands would be mounted underneath your Samsung TV, and it will provide a nice open space where the One Connect Box can rest. Martin Furniture and FITUEYES offer some solid options. Remember that your One Connect Box won’t take up the entire open space on the shelf or shelves, so you can decorate them with other items as you see fit.

What is the Samsung One Connect Box TV?

Samsung proposed to make the TV in two parts, a display, and a control unit. The TV screen and the One Connect Box are connected with a special cable. There were many versions of this scheme. First, you connected the power cable from the mains to the display and the One Connect Box. In later versions, the power supply was placed in the One Connect, and the show was also powered by a cable connecting the One Connect Box to the TV screen.

Screen in One Connect Box TVs

The TV has the following components: an electrical screen control board, a Bluetooth module, an infrared remote control signal receiver, and built-in speakers. A cable to connect to the external box is either neatly attached to the back of the TV if the One Connect Box is installed nearby or routed to the location of the One Connect Box.

What’s in the One Connect Box

The One Connect Box is the brain of your TV and contains the power supply for the screen and the main circuit board (some TV models require you to plug both parts of the TV into the electrical outlet). And the mainboard houses the processor, memory, HDMI, USB, LAN, and other ports.

One Connect Box vs. Slim One Connect Box.

Slim One Connect Box

The One Connect Box is big; Samsung engineers thought to install it next to the TV or hide it somewhere else; Samsung offers a connecting cable up to 15 meters. But not everyone likes it. For example, you bought a TV and chose to mount it on the wall, in which case you need to find a place to hide the One Connect Box, and this is a problem, some companies offer services to install a special compartment in the wall behind the TV, in which it will be hidden.

There are fasteners on the TV to mount the One Connect Box, but this arrangement was only suitable for TVs mounted on a stand and was completely unacceptable when the TV was placed on the wall. To solve this problem, Samsung made a slim One Connect Box in 2021 that can be mounted on the back of the TV with almost no pain. The TV and the One Connect can now easily be hung on the wall.

Why Samsung invented the One Connect Box.

Samsung does not talk about the reasons for creating this type of TV, but we can assume that it is to some extent an experiment that affects the direction of the service.

Consider this example, a television with a 75-inch screen weighing 130.7 pounds (60 kg) mounted on the wall. A TV with an expensive screen, 8K resolution, suddenly stops working. An engineer comes to repair the TV; the mainboard needs to be replaced. How to remove the TV from the wall is somewhat problematic; you need 2, 3 people. And if the TV has an external One Connect Box, the engineer can easily replace the small box.

The history of the One Connect Box in Samsung TVs

One Connect SEK

In 2013-2014, Samsung first implemented the One Connect SEK system, but back then, it was different. At the time, TVs were improving rapidly. Samsung suggested that users buy a One Connect SEK in a couple of years and upgrade their TV to a newer model. But TVs were updating so rapidly (new types of screens, new processors, cheaper manufacturing) that it was no longer worthwhile to improve the TV this way after a few years. The One Connect SEK evolved into the One Connect Box.

You finally saved up and spent your hard-earned cash buying that Samsung QLED TV that you long dreamed of owning. After mounting this beauty to your wall, you are confronted with an unexpected but perplexing problem: Where should you put the One Connect Box?

It is more of an aesthetic issue, but it is still essential, especially if you forked over a couple of grand to purchase this TV. It is not to take anything away from the One Connect Box, for it is a neat little tech that makes it easier to connect all of your favorite devices. Don’t forget that it has a convenient built-in TV tuner to boot.

Slim One Connect box: what’s new?

The first thing to know is a new 2021 model called the Slim One Connect Box. It’s a slimmer, more compact version of the One Connect Box we’ve seen in recent years, with updated connections and a new form factor, plus the ability to plug into the back of the box.

We have not yet received official specs for the Slim One Connect box. Still, we expect to see HDMI 2.1 ports, given their current frequency in Samsung’s TV lineup, with support for HDMI eARC (enhanced audio return channel) that allows passthrough of audio to a soundbar. It’s likely to be a priority for 8K TVs and the new MicroLED series coming this year. We haven’t gotten the full specs out of the box yet, but we’ll be sure to update this page when we learn more.

Samsung One Connect Box connections

The specific connections on the One Connect Box will depend on how new or old your Samsung TV is. A 2021 model with the box will likely have HDMI 2.1 ports since they now come standard on QLED TVs and eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel). Older displays, however, won’t be as lucky.

The One Connect box usually has ports for connecting an infrared extender (infrared out) and external speakers (audio out). There are also ports for antenna (ANT IN), component (AV IN), HDMI (with ARC for streaming audio to soundbars), Ethernet (LAN), optical, and USB.

The 2019/2020 model came with the entries below:

  • 1 x stem
  • 1 x service
  • 1 x IN antenna
  • 1 x AV IN / Component IN
  • 1 x digital audio out port (optical)
  • 1 x Ethernet port
  • 4 x HDMI IN (one with ARC)
  • 1 x one connection port
  • 2 USB 2.0 0.5A ports
  • 1 x USB 2.0 5V hard drive port

Samsung One Connect Box Dimensions

A few iterations of the One Connect Box have been since its inception in 2014, sometimes even in an even smaller ‘Mini’ model for those who want to get by with fewer inputs.

However, the 2021 ‘Slim’ model is expected to be smaller than either. From the images we’ve seen, the new model is slimmer and shorter, with the curved body and the soft sheen of a polished pebble, quite different from the previous iteration’s rectangular shape and sharp corners.

Samsung One Connect Box price: how much does it cost?

That’s a tricky question, given that you can’t buy the One Connect box as a standalone accessory. It comes bundled with select Samsung TV models, increasing the suggested retail price for those respective sets.

The 95 Q2020T, for example, initially sold for € 2,999 for a 65-inch size, that’s € 500 (about € 350 / AU € 650) more than the Q90T, which comes without the box. That’s a steep increase in price and is a testament to the premium nature of the box.

It’s a confusing way of doing things and not too consumer-friendly, but we can explain which Samsung TVs come with the box below. You can see that the amount of support in the Samsung lineup varies significantly from year to year.

  • Samsung 2021 TVs (Slim One Connect Box)
  • 2020 Samsung TVs (one connection box)
  • 2019 Samsung TVs (one connection box)

Samsung One Connect Box: the future of cabling

Although availability remains limited to specific sets, Samsung sees some future in the One Connect box.

2021 saw an evolution of the form factor, with a slimmer profile and updated HDMI 2.1 connections. However, the accessory’s full potential won’t be realized until it’s as easy to pack with a flat panel display as a compatible soundbar or additional bezel. For Samsung The Frame.

None of the other big TV brands do anything quite like the One Connect box; For now, even Samsung’s phased progress puts it ahead.

The One Connect Box will come in handy if you use a Blu-ray player, a sound system, and a gaming console. If you decide to mount the TV, you will have several wires coming down from behind the TV, which can be very unsightly. The One Connect Box can easily clean up that wire clutter.

Hide One Connect Box and One Connect cable out of sight up to code with AV Back Box for wall storage installed flush in the wall behind the wall-mounted Frame TV.

This AV backbox will provide the necessary space for a connection box and connection cable to be nested and hidden behind the TV.

  • A connecting cord with the televisions mentioned above is not rated for wall applications. Therefore, it is against the code to fish for One Connect Cable and hide it inside a bare wall. We have confirmed it with the representative of Samsung in Canada.

This article is written for Samsung Frame TVs and QLED TVs 7 series from 2018 to the latest 2021 models.

These are the generations that come with the One Connect Box and One Connect Cable that also supply power to the TV.

The latest “Slim Fit TV Wall Mount” from 2021 and the previous generation “Gapless Wall Mount” are designed to keep the TV Frame or QLED TV flush with the wall. Therefore, you need to create space inside the wall for the One Connect Box and One Connect to be hidden behind the TV.

How to hide Samsung One Connect Box (and One Connect Cable) down to the code

First, you need to locate the poles on your wall with a pole finder to mount your Frame TV.

After locating the studs on the wall, mark the outline (width x height) of the AV back box between 2 studs where the TV will completely hide it once the Frame TV is mounted on the wall.

Space required for AV back box installation

For 18 × 14 inch AV back box installation, the required space inside the wall is 18 ″ (H) x 14.25 ″ (W) x 4 ″ (D).

Your wall must be at least four ″ deep / wall clearance from the wall surface to fit the AV back box into the wall. * For example, 2×4 studs + 1/2 ″ drywall equals 4 inches deep, which is standard on newer homes and townhomes. The 4-inch clearance is the absolute minimum depth required for the AV back box to fit flush into a wall.

Also, there should be 14.25 ″ of clearance between the two studs. * The standard spacing between studs is 16 “apart on center, equalling 14.25” of clearance between 2 studs.

Common applicable walls for AV back box installation include:

  • 2×4 Wood Post Drywall (Standard for Newer Homes and Townhomes)
  • 2×4 metal stud drywall (newer commercial buildings and * some condos)
  • Interior plaster wall with wood studs in older homes/buildings with at least four ″ of clearance
  • Custom made walls with at least four ″ of support from the wall surface to the back
  • Common barriers NOT applicable for AV back box installation include:
  • Concrete walls (usually in condos and apartments)
  • Brick walls (usually above the wood-burning fireplace)
  • Drywall with two × two metal studs (usually in condos and apartments)
  • Postless plaster exterior wall (old houses and buildings)
  • Concrete block wall
  • Any wall that does not have a cavity

9×14 AV back box could also work to hide a junction box with slight modification

If you have a 32 “or 43” frame TV, you can use a 9×14 inch AV back box with a slight modification. You only have to cut a small bump with a mini hacksaw, which only takes minutes.

The photos below are from our recent 43-inch TV Frame installation with a 9×14 AV back box installed behind the TV to hide the One Connect box and Rogers Ignite cable box. Although the space was tight, they both managed to fit inside this AV 9×14 backbox.

The orientation of this nine × 14 inch AV back box can be installed both vertically and horizontally. If installing vertically, as shown in the picture above, ensure the AV back box is installed near the stud on the opposite side from where the outlet will be installed. You must leave enough space for the junction box (for the power outlet) to fit inside the wall between the stud and the AV backbox.
