If you have ever been to The Home Depot, I am sure you have visited the tool aisle and seen the green-colored tools. Ryobi tools are a huge part of the tool department at the store, and for an excellent reason. Ryobi is designed for the homeowner. While the tools are inexpensive, they pack a powerful punch. 

Ryobi offers many of the same options with professional tools, but for a fraction of the cost. We have received many emails about the Ryobi table saw, model RTS21G, so we figured we would get one and do a Ryobi Table Saw Review. So here we go.

If you sit back and look at one table saw from another, you probably will only notice a price difference as most table saws look the same. 

Well, except for colors. While there is a justification for the expensive models, why would a homeowner need to pay twice as much for one when a homeowner might only use it ten times a year? Well, that is where Ryobi comes in.

Are Ryobi table saws any good?

Overall, the Ryobi RTS31 10-inch table saw is a great value. At $299, you get a product with a lot of versatility and ample power for any cutting task. Whether it was 2×4 material or sheet goods, the RTS31 held up well and didn’t bog down under load.

Ryobi is made by a company called Techtronic Industries Co. Ltd. The same company makes Milwaukee tools, which are considered professional power tools. 

While I am not sure how much information they share back and forth, I know this company knows tools. So when it comes to the Ryobi name and image, you can bet that Techtronic Industries Co. Ltd. is making the best homeowner tools for the money. Regarding the table saw, this is packed with a bunch of goodies.

The fence is the first thing I want to chat about, which I think is most important. I have seen a ton of saws out there where they design a great table saw but a junky wall. You need to have a good fence for final output and safety. What I look for in a wall is a fence that, once you lock it, stays locked and stays in place. The wall mustn’t move at all.

You will usually see movement in the back of a fence after the blade. It will produce an undesirable cut, but it can also cause a kickback and get you hurt. The Ryobi fence seems to be quality. It locks it in the front and back when you close the wall, making it secure. 

I don’t see this moving around or causing any problems. What’s good with this fence is that even if it starts to move, the user can adjust its tightness. On the back of the wall, there is a screw that you can adapt to make the back locking mechanism lighter or looser. So for me, this is a massive win for the Ryobi table saw. Now we can get onto the other items.

The saw is powered by a 15 amp motor that produces a no-load speed of 5,000 RPMs. As far as the rip capacity, you get 27″ to the right, thanks to the extension table. To the left, you get 12″. If you need to install a dado blade, it will accept up to 1/2″, perfect for any woodworking project. As with other table saws, you get all the accessories such as a miter gauge, blade gauge, anti-kickback tool, plus a push stick stored conveniently on the side of the table.

 However, this comes with a stand that many saws don’t. Usually, you have to buy a table saw stand separately. Now don’t expect a top-of-the-line perspective because it’s not. However, the air does a great job, and it’s straightforward to separate the saw from the frame. The rack will even store on the saw when not in use. As a note, make sure you read the directions before you install the stand.

 I thought I knew everything and just started fastening everything together. Well, I couldn’t get the saw to attach to the stand. Once I read the directions and did it correctly, I didn’t have any issues. Here is some more good news, the saw comes with a 3-year warranty.

Overall I like this table saw. I felt like it would cut through anything I threw at it. Our saw was straight from the factory, so I didn’t have to mess with anything. As I said, while I like the stand, it could be a tad better. You have to remember that this is a homeowner table saw. 

So if you go from a pro saw to this, you might not dig this saw. However, if you are a weekend warrior during some cool projects, this is a great saw that won’t break the bank. The fence moves freely and locks down tight.

Bottom line, if you’re a homeowner, this is a great buy at $299.  Not only do you get the saw, but you get a pretty decent stand to go along with it.  With a 15 amp motor, you are pretty much getting the same powerful motor that the big boys offer, but again, at a fraction of the cost.  

Yes, they are different motors, but the saw is for different uses.  A contractor will be using their saw almost daily, so it does need to be a little beefier.  The homeowner doesn’t use it daily, so why add extra cost onto a saw that doesn’t require it?  If you are looking at investing into a new table saw, the Ryobi is worth a look.  Hope you enjoyed our Ryobi Table Saw Review.

In that aspect, this is a saw that will stand up to whatever you throw at it. For those wanting to treat their tools a bit less gently, we’d recommend going with a different model with a bit more metal and a few less features that might not bear up under the heavier loads and abuse often experienced on the job site.

Even with that caveat, this is a great portable saw for the money. If you want a bit more durability, expect to pay about $100 more and lose both the easy rolling feature and the stand. That’s the trade-off, so you can factor that in when making a purchasing decision.

When Ryobi dropped off their new RTS31 10″ Table Saw we knew the company had made some pretty big changes. The most obvious was the sliding miter table and newly-designed outfeed support. This $299 Ryobi RTS31 10-inch Table Saw aims to position itself squarely at the DIY market and it certainly seems like a capable product for that.
We got to play with it quite a bit as we built a murphy bed as part of a complete built-in system within an historic home built before 1920. We had tons of rips and crosscuts to make, and the Ryobi RTS31 got quite the workout.

RYOBI RTS31 10-INCH TABLE SAW FEATURES

The big features of the Ryobi RTS31 10-inch table saw include its fairly large right-side rip capacity. We got around 31-inches off our sample, thanks to the sliding miter table and outfeed support. The fence seemed easy enough to adjust. It had that same “looseness” common to lower-priced table saws, but when you lock it down it straightens out.

Our blade was properly aligned without having to adjust it, but the table scale was off by a full 1/8″, and we weren’t able to fully adjust it given the minimal amount of play available in the adjustable guide. That meant we had to pull out the tape measure for most of our cuts.

The outfeed support on the Ryobi RTS31 10-inch table saw was a great feature, but one that didn’t look like it would hold up to job site abuse—it simply doesn’t have teh metal required to withstand impacts or bending under a heavier load. This is largely why we feel this to be an excellent DIY saw, but not so well-suited for professional applications. Given its price point, it’s still a great value.

An adjustable spring-loaded foot on the folding stand means that you can now balance the saw on almost any surface. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that the rather steep angle of the leg may allow the bolt on the adjustable foot to bend over time, so we recommend using it sparingly and to not leave it extended fully when its not needed.

RYOBI RTS31 10-INCH TABLE SAW IN THE FIELD

We were able to use the Ryobi RTS31 10-inch table saw, as we indicated earlier, to rip and cross cut all of the pieces for a queen-sized Murphy bed that we built right into a bedroom of an historic home. Sheet goods received plenty of support from the outfeed, and the sliding miter table really made quick work of smaller cross cuts.

The fence held up nicely for our rips and we found it easy to make repeated cuts. The blade guard is flexible and it wasn’t too difficult to reach in and adjust it when we went back and forth between through-cutting and non-through-cutting applications.
