Of chilli, I wondered if it had benefits for cooks with more modest needs. After some serious time under pressure, I asked about the functions and features of the famous Instant Pot.

Like most appliances, parts for the Instant Pot Ultra—lid with removable silicone seal, stainless steel inner cooking pot, and any accessories you might be using (cooking trivet with handle, rice Measuring cup, rice paddle and spoon) ) – must be washed before first use.

After reassembling the parts, the brand suggests testing the waters to confirm that the cooker holds pressure. I found that it also allowed me to become more familiar with how the controls work.

The controls on this Instant Pot are different from earlier models, thanks to a larger display with lots of information. Buttons around the display show preset cooking functions, while a knob at the bottom lets you select the process as well as all of its options. I liked this method, which made me believe that I turned the warming feature on or off.

An interesting design decision on this model is the Cancel button on the left side of the control knob and the Start button on the right. The Cancel button not only cancels the cooking process but also locks you out of the settings you were choosing. Previous models of the Instant Pot didn’t have a Start button—you just decided your settings, and off you went.

If you used the previous model, you might need to train yourself to press start. If this is your first Instant Pot, that start button may seem ordinary, as many other devices have start and stop buttons.

The handle on the side of the pot can insert into the handle to hold the lid (pictured the way a trash can opens on a hinge). I liked this design, as it meant I didn’t have to find a place on the counter to put the lid on when I was working.

An interesting new design feature is that the quick-release button automatically switches back to sealing mode when the lid is removed and replaced. It is excellent for those who forget to set the steam release correctly and come back to find that they are cooking without pressure.

I liked the design of the lid handle, as it meant I didn’t have to find a place on the counter to put the lid on while I worked.

Unlike cookers, which require users to turn the steam release valve themselves, the quick-release button only needs to be pressed to initiate the venting process and is a short distance from the steam vent; allowing That should help users feel a little less worried about it—hot steam.

When pressed gently, steam comes out until I lift my finger. It is excellent for controlled venting. When the quick-release valve is pressed more firmly, it stays in place for continuous venting. It took me a few tries and a second perusal of the manual to figure out that firm push.

One thing I liked about the included cooking trivet was its handle. When I put a soufflé dish on the trivet to cook a French toast casserole, those handles made it easy to get the soufflé dish out of the pot during cooking.

While all those presets can come in handy, and I’ve certainly worked with all of them, I’ve used the pressure cook option most often.

Ultra presets are one of the features that set this cooker apart. The Ultra lets you set a precise temperature for recipes that require it, and I found it worked well enough for my purposes. I used it for some chicken thighs, and with the temperature fluctuating slightly during the 90-minute cook, it was close enough to finish my meal.
