What is considered a club chair?

A club chair is a comfortable armchair with a wide, sometimes oversized design profile. It’s upholstered either in leather or fabric for the most comfort. The traditional club chair design has arms, but you can also find armless club chairs, and often, the arms are a single piece with the chair back.

Why is it called a club chair?

Origin of the Name

Originally referred to as a comfortable chair, it quickly became known by its now famous name, i.e. club chair, since it is popular in clubs. Particularly in gentlemen’s clubs, these club sofas were for men to relax on them with a drink when they wanted a break from home

What is the difference between club chair and regular chair?

A club chair is a durable, thickly upholstered armchair. Its arms and back are lower than other types of chairs and the chair is relatively boxy though sometimes curved. The club chair is also typically upholstered in leather.

In her home, the interior designer Agustina Llorente, creator of Nicho, sought to enhance the space in every possible way. “We were looking for breadth, but we didn’t have that many meters. So we generated it with high ceilings, generous windows, recessed lighting, and light colors on the floors and walls”. Another successful measure was to cover the wall with an asymmetrical frame of white lacquered wood that contains the TV and the AC, surrounded by decorative objects of a solid personal brand.

“After having lived in a loft, I wanted to concentrate all the functions in one floor without divisions.”, Says Mila Juliá, creator of Kiseki and owner of the house. Fewer walls, more integration, and a well-lit grid that forms a unique and easily renewable composition.

The floor-to-ceiling library, designed by Camila Gaztambide, owner of the house and creator of Casa Santo, solves different functions. In addition to many shelves, the bottom is wider to hold keys or support a lamp. It also houses the TV. “It shouldn’t be so present, but the truth is that we enjoy sitting down to watch series or movies.”

Integrator – club chair

In solid launch wood with shelves veneered in petiribí, Sofía Ledesma designed a library that integrates the living-dining room space.

Together with her partner, Michelle Levy is in charge of Cuarto Estudio. Demanding, she took her time putting her stamp on her department, and she did it with hard-hitting pieces, such as a painted mural and a sculptural library, all designed by her. I designed the library to take up the entire wall: it begins as a hall, where I hang my wallet, and then rises to display the objects that give color.”

The architects Ignacio Trabucchi and Vanesa Lijdens already had a family project together. Still, when his studio, ATV Arquitectos, started a building in Palermo Viejo, the project materialized into what would become their home. “This department was part of a work that was going to last two years. Time to experiment, try things out and have a thousand twists and turns”, says she, who took charge of the interior design through her studio, Lijdens Arquitectura + Interiorismo.
