Dennis explains that covered structures, such as screened porches or pergolas attached or detached from the home, lend themselves to defining the outside area and protecting you from the elements. She points out that the most economical are patio covers leaning against the house’s frame – a 10 to 14-foot surface, sloped, that provides a covered area to enjoy year-round.

“These house-supported structures are great for small areas; we can build fixed benches or a bar across the posts to make the most of the space, ” says Dennis, estimating costs to be between $ 4,000 and $ 8,000. “They add style to your outdoor area.”

You can also hang inexpensive waterproof curtains to enjoy the patio in comfort. These outdoor curtains can conserve heat (particularly if you put a space heater on) and protect you from rain and other elements.

1. Heat the area – Fire Pit

If you put some heat outside, it will be easier to entertain when the days get colder, says Sharon McCormick, CEO of Sharon McCormick Design in Hartford, Connecticut.

Homeowners who plan to spend a lot of time on the patio might want to spend on an outdoor wood or gas fireplace, which starts at $ 3,000, she says. The fireplaces create a cozy atmosphere and the opportunity to incorporate options such as a pizza oven.

If you prefer a mobile fire pit, portable fire pits are an inexpensive way to create a place for family and friends to gather outside. McCormick recommends buying one with a wide brim so you can safely support your feet.

“You can find a campfire kit for $ 200,” he explains, though they’re in high demand right now. And if you’re skilled, you can even build a more permanent version.

For those who live in departments or cities where homeowners associations or local municipalities do not allow wood products, McCormick suggests purchasing coffee tables with concealed propane tanks, which also double as fire pit tables when the time comes. Cold. These multi-functional tables offer the warmth and ambiance of a campfire at the right time, or you can leave the lid on to serve food.

Don’t you want to be aware of the fire? Instead, install outdoor heaters. You can buy inexpensive pendant heaters or go for mushroom patio heaters, designed for residential use, that heat up to an area of 10 feet. But order them now because these items are running out and it is increasingly difficult to find them.

Dennis has been installing ceiling- or beam-mounted heaters on roofed structures. “They form a blanket of heat or a wall of heat,” he explains.

2. Buy weather-resistant furniture – Fire Pit

White plastic tables and chairs or non-padded metal furniture are not the best options when winter arrives; you will need sturdy waterproof seats to receive people outside in those months. Consider upgrading with plush sectional sofas and purchase cushions for your wooden Adirondack chairs.

McCormick says you could even afford to buy heated furniture, but it’s not cheap – electrically heated sofas cost about $ 8,000. Regardless, she suggests decorating with furry pillows and thick-woven, fleece, or electric blankets to keep from getting cold outside. Another option that won’t leave your pockets empty is the warm embrace of a $ 200 heated camping chair that lets you control the temperature.

Incorporate warm hues into your décor, such as dark red, tan orange, and yellow. Store your accessories in a waterproof box or ottoman on the porch, so they don’t get wet.

3. Give your feet comfort with a waterproof floor

McCormick suggests that to add warmth and define the gathering area, spread waterproof flooring over your concrete or tile patio.

“Today, there are countless outdoor flooring and rugs sold in any size or by roll to suit your area,” explains McCormick. “Most are flat weave to prevent tripping, but some are more padded. You can also place a pad under the rug to add another layer of insulation from the cement or stone.”

4. Ambiance with more light – Fire Pit

Since the sun sets earlier each day, the outdoor lighting provides a welcoming atmosphere, McCormick says.

“Pendant lights or solar lights that look like fluorescent strings are inexpensive. Hang them around the perimeter of the yard,” she explains. “In a covered area, you can hang chandeliers from the ceiling if it is high enough.”

Includes lamps made especially for outdoor use; some even run on batteries, and you will forget the risk of tripping over cables.

As you would inside, place different types of lights strategically: floor lamps, lanterns, candles, or LED votive candles distributed throughout the space—wrap strings of lights around trees or shrubs to highlight your garden design. Consider also decorating with tabletop tiki torches to create focal points for firelight dining.

5. Install a hot chocolate bar – Fire Pit

Transform the bar or rolling cart into a hot chocolate bar. To do this, heat the chocolate on a side burner of the grill and prepare bowls with ingredients like marshmallows and cinnamon sticks. This winter bar might also offer hot apple cider or other festive drinks.

Set aside an old wicker dresser to store utensils until the next meeting.

Upgrading your outdoor space for year-round enjoyment yields a great return on your investment, says Dennis.

“I have had clients who sold their house in a second: as soon as it goes on sale, they dispute it for more price because everyone yearns for the outdoors,” he explains.

These portable fireplaces vary widely in price, size, and weight. There are inexpensive $ 60 models and high-yield wells that will help a fancy propane fire pit. There are many options for outdoor fire pits, including propane fire pits and glass fire pit real wood-burning fire pit options. The great thing about these wood-burning stoves is their ease of use and versatility. You can use them for heating and also for cooking food, even intense questioning.

Solo Stove fire pits have gained a massive following in recent years, and the company’s newest product, Solo Stove Yukon, is the biggest and best yet. With a top side measuring 27 inches wide and a 23-inch diameter mouth, the Yukon is large enough to accept full-size firewood logs. Despite the Yukon’s wide footprint, its stainless steel

That you will find in your fire, in our experience, the Yukon performs as well as its smaller cousin, the Solo Stove Ranger, but on a larger scale.

The Yukon fire starts fast – its logs are fully captured in just five minutes. Once they were caught, they burned for hours. This pit was efficient as well, constantly consuming all of our test firewood logs. It produces much less smoke than the other fire pits we’ve tested here, save bracket ($ 70) for extra money or as part of a bundle. Because the well weighs 38 pounds, we do not recommend moving it frequently. Up rapidly to combustion temperatures.

To say that, the Breeo X Series 24 is designed of corten (weather resistant) steel and 304 stainless steel blend. As a result, the X Series does not facilitate secondary fuel burning, similar to Solo Stove’s smokeless fire pits. While not as easy to light as the Solo Stove pits, the X Series definitely stays on once you start the fire, and when done correctly, the process takes five minutes and only requires smaller logs and firewood at first. It puts out a lot of heat while burning at maximum temperature, but the secondary combustion of the well releases hardly any smoke.

The X Series stainless steel gasket plate is also lovely to have. It surrounds the outside edge of the fire pit and is 29.5 inches in diameter. The dish gets hot enough to cook burgers, chicken, and other salty foods, pans.

You also have a couple of accessories to consider. First up is Breeo’s Outpost cooking accessory, a $ 189 accessory that creates a height-adjustable grill surface. Bree also sells a $ 99 stainless steel cap for the X Series. It is designed to protect the well from excess moisture when not in use.

One last note: be sure to think carefully about where you want to implement this well. It weighs 33 pounds more than the Tiki Fire Pit’s second-heaviest pit in this group. I recommend having a friend or two help you move it where it needs to go.

The FirePit, manufactured by Brooklyn-based BioLite, weighs less than 20 pounds and is designed to be portable. It is relatively long and narrow. However, it contains a bit more wood than you might think, with room for up to four logs of firewood. You can use it as a standard fire pit or as a backyard grill, and it was updated in 2021 with an enamel coating for easier cleaning and a larger capacity battery for its built-in fan.

In fire pit mode, lower the fuel screen to the bottom of the well. To grill over hot wood embers or charcoal briquettes if you prefer, raise the grill to its highest setting. BioLite offers a package with a grill rack, which is placed over everything. In less than five minutes, the grill ignited quickly and was completely burned in less than 10.

The FirePit has a couple of distinctive features, one of which is the proprietary airflow technology. A motorized fan blows the air into the combustion chamber. The phone uses Bluetooth. A mesh body allows you to see the

They are improved by roughly 20%, with up to 30 hours on low settings, 14 hours on medium, and seven hours on high. Airflow technology also helps create a nearly smoke-free fire. The FirePit’s legs fold flat when you want to take the grill on the go, plus the hole comes with a handy rain cover. A removable ashtray makes cleaning easy.

All in all, this is a compelling little fire pit for someone who doesn’t want (or can’t have) a permanent pit that always gobbles up patio space.

Brian Bennett / CNET – Fire Pit

This Garden Treasures fire pit proves that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to enjoy a backyard bonfire. Despite its low price, this firewood pit is nice and wide (29.5 inches in diameter). It also comes with a mesh cap to keep sparks at bay.

However, it lacks an advanced airflow system, so the fires in this wood fire pit generate a lot of smoke. And its steel frame is not stainless, so leaving the hole in the elements will lead to rust. That said, we were able to get a self-sufficient fire going in about five minutes. Its ignition time is comparable to premium fire pits such as the Solo Stove Ranger and the Tiki Brand Fire Pit.

Those products burn your fuel more efficiently, leaving less wood and ash to clean up in the morning. Still, the Garden Treasures wood-burning pit gets the job done on a budget.

Started the well-known bamboo Tiki torch over 60 years ago. Now, Tiki offers a fire pit that is large, sturdy, and attractive. Priced nearly $ 300 more than its budget rival, this well has superior performance, ease of use, and style that make it well worth the investment.

The stained wood and steel well don’t just look good. The Tiki fire pit has an intelligent airflow system that recycles hot smoke into the fire chamber. It was easy to light during our tests, ignited in about five minutes, and completely burned out in 15.

It also generated much less smoke than the other fire pits we tested, especially after its logs were fully capture usually around 15 minutes. Only the Solo Stove Ranger burned wood with less smoke emission, its fuel-burning fiercely in five minutes. The Tiki Fire Pit logs also burned efficiently, lasting for hours.

Due to its largemouth (16 inches in diameter), it is easier to share the fire with several people. The Solo Stove Ranger is smaller – its metal fire ring is 10 inches in diameter. However, kids gathering to roast s’mores need to be careful – all surfaces of the Tiki fire pit, including its metal rim, are simmering after the fire is lit. It also takes time to cool down after the flames go out.

We appreciate the removable ashtray from the Tiki brand well. Facilitates cleaning. The hole emits a generous amount of heat; While that may not be ideal for hot summer nights, it is great when the temperature drops during the fall and winter. Finally, tipping the scales at 45 pounds, this fire pit is heavy. Please think twice before putting it on and get help when you do.

The pop-up fire pit is very portable but produces a lot of smoke.

the Foldable design allows you to assemble and disassemble it quickly. It also uses a heat shield, so it doesn’t burn the ground underneath.
