The system itself is amazing the graphics are bright crisp clear and the games are reasonably priced. It can take a good tumble without cracking and so far we haven’t had any games cross or anything like that. Also, I love that I can hook it up to the TV so we can watch YouTube videos on our…

When the Bountiful City Police Department in the US state of Utah found a Nintendo Switch left behind at a park that was returned to them, they announced on Twitter that the owners, Mason and Ali, should collect it back. However, they also joked that they had already made good use of the gaming console and their skills were far better than the owners.

The Nintendo Switch is Nintendo’s successor to the Wii U, a home console with some great ideas and games that fell flat in execution. But the Switch has more in common with the iPad or the slew of Android devices that have captured mainstream attention.

Nintendo’s own handheld devices, the Nintendo DS and 3DS had their share of the spotlight, but they never had the mainstream reach of the Nintendo Wii which released in 2006. Does the Nintendo Switch do enough to catapult the company back to the masses? Read on to find out.

With a rumored Nintendo Switch 2 in the works, you may be wondering if the current Nintendo Switch is worth buying right now. I know that I am the least.

Although the Nintendo Switch Lite is the gaming console I’ve always wanted, I’m debating whether to buy a full-switch switch – one that lives up to the device’s name. I recently moved to a new apartment, where I believe the entertainment setup of my living room would benefit from a party-friendly gaming console.

Sure, I can just get a karaoke machine. But there is something about playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on a big screen that appeals to me. I already have a 55-inch Samsung Q80T QLED TV, light strips, and a bunch of bean bag chairs in exchange for a couch. All that is meant to remember an activity.

However, I risk buyer remorse, especially when I invest in equipment to be replaced by next-gen versions immediately after swiping my credit card. Seriously: I came out on the MacBook Pro 13-inch (2020) four months ago with the M1 on the MacBook Pro. Of course, you can always say that a later version of the gadget would be better. But I’m curious if this argument actually applies to the Nintendo Switch.

I’m no gaming expert, but I work with a couple of Tom’s guides, who have been behind in the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch Pro leaks. They caught me at the rumor mill and offered their two cents whether I should wait for the next Nintendo Switch, or turn on the current one.

Why you should wait for the Nintendo Switch Pro

“If you have a 4K TV and already have a Switch Lite, now is the time to wait,” said Henry T. Casey, editor of Tom’s Guide. “The next Switch should render games (when docked) in 4K, and you don’t want to be locked into a lesser experience. Waiting now will give you the 4K gaming you deserve and a more scalable Switch. “

Casey knows I actually have a 4K TV. So why do we need a 4K switch? The default visuals for the current Switch might look outdated, compared to the Blu-ray content I watch on my QLED TV. As more people switch to 1080p TVs and more manufacturers release games in 4K, it would make sense for Nintendo to keep up with its next console release.

“It looks like Nintendo has something in the works for next year, although we don’t know exactly what it is,” said Marshall Honorof, editor of the “If it’s something that’s strictly better than the Switch, you’d better buy it.”Granted, since I’ve never owned a flagship Nintendo Switch, I might not know how much better the new version could be.

“The bigger reason I’d recommend holding off is because you already have a Switch Lite,” Honorof said. “You already have access to every single game in the Switch library, even though it’s on a small screen. Hopefully, the pandemic is winding down, which also means you’ll be able to travel around a lot more. A docked Switch won’t do you much good if you’re out of the house.”

Honor makes a convincing point. I also live fairly close to a park and imagine I’ll want to play games on its grassy lawns as the weather gets warmer. Do I really need the standard Switch to do that when my Nintendo Switch Lite is already more portable?

Why should you buy a Nintendo Switch now?

That said, if I fancy a bigger screen for gaming on the go, it might be a good idea to buy the standard Nintendo Switch right now. As our Nintendo Switch Lite vs Nintendo Switch face-to-face explains, the Lite has a 5.5-inch screen, while the regular Switch has a 6.2-inch screen.

“If you plan to use [the Switch] in portable mode, there’s no reason to buy the new one, if and when it comes out,” said Tom Pritchard, a channel editor for Tom’s Guide. “Currently, the Nintendo Switch 2 leaks indicate that the new console has the same 720p display, just with an OLED panel.”

My Switch Lite also doesn’t have multiplayer capabilities, which crushes any dreams of destroying my dearest friends on Dragon Driftway when I’m at home. And while I guess I could be a bit patient for the next Switch, I might have a longer wait time than I expected.

“I think you should buy a Nintendo Switch now because the stock will be absolutely miserable for the new one,” said Ian Morris, editor-in-chief of T3. “It was quite difficult to buy a Switch when it first came out, and I can only imagine what it will be like in the year of the flea drought.”

Morris reminded me of how I happily jumped on the PS5 and Xbox Series X stock hunts. I’m not sure I want to engage in the ruthless, time-consuming experience necessary to secure a next-gen console. Finding where to buy the Nintendo Switch right now is a much simpler feat.

Still, I think my colleagues convinced me to wait. Maybe not for an entire new console to come out, but for one of the best Nintendo Switch deals to at least cut the cost of a two-year-old device by $ 299. I also think I should hang out with my Nintendo Switch Lite in this nearby park to see if the screen size is really starting to bother me.

Then again, maybe if the current Switch was the same gorgeous yellow as my Lite model, that wouldn’t be as much of a debate.
